Here’s a reminder to myself to go back to default settings and to give praise and thanksgiving, no matter what I’m feeling.
That’s right, no matter what we’re going through, no matter what we’re encountering, no matter what tries to sabotage us from within, and no matter what tries to drag us down from the outside – the call will always be for us in the body of Christ to rejoice always, to pray without ceasing, and to give thanks in all circumstances.
And here I’m also reminded that if we run out of things to pray about, there’s always the option to rejoice, and to give thanks – forms of communication, ways to speak to and listen to the divine.
And even if we find ourselves out of reasons and/or motivation to give thanks and to praise… well, we do have the Holy Spirit, with us, never leaving nor forsaking us, to pray on our behalf, with utterings beyond our understanding.
Our default settings are active. We’re always praying, whether we want to or not. I venture to say that we’re always rejoicing and we’re always giving thanks as well. This takes our understanding of who we are – Temples of the Holy Spirit – from taking in how it’s a role and/or a function, to being amazed by the Truth – that it’s our identity.
To rejoice, to pray, and to give thanks goes more than our default settings – it’s who we are.
And with all that said, well, we rejoice. I rejoice. I find joy and comfort in the knowledge of who God is to each and every one of us.
This is the God of Israel; the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He is the Creator of all things seen and unseen, the Maker of the Heavens and the Earth. At the beginning He declared the extent and borders of oceans and the firmament; He also established day and night, as such, He is the eternal and infinite One who founded time and space. The God we believe in is the God above all gods, infinitely superior in power, with eternal wisdom established before the beginning of time, and spanning forever past the end of time.
In His greatness and glory He demonstrated His goodness and grace ultimately by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to be born as One of humanity, fully God yet fully Man. The pinnacle of signs and wonders, revealing the true nature of the God of gods, was seen when Christ lay down His life, as a willful sacrifice for the redemption, reconciliation and regeneration of all who would believe.
The grace and glory of God was established by the crucifixion of Christ, and was guaranteed by His resurrection, fully released and freely given to one and all in the form of the Holy Spirit, following His ascension.
I rejoice, because it is by the Holy Spirit that I have come to believe and receive this salvation.
And with every day I endure the trials of this world, for it is this salvation that serves as a solid rock, a firm foundation; this hope of glory is our anchor.
Oh, glorify His name with me. Magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt His name together.
We thank God for our lives – we thank God for true life poured out upon us, poured into us. This life we have goes beyond mere existence; It is a life of purpose, a life free from striving, a life overflowing with the love and light of the Father, Son and the Spirit.
I am aware that I sound like a broken record. I am aware that I sound like a total fanatic, who many may call brainwashed – but the Truth of the matter is, I once was blind, and now I see. I once was dead, and now am alive. I once was lost, and now am found.
He had no reason to save us, but He did – and He saved us by giving everything up, taking the condemnation I deserved that I would be saved.
And I take all of this in again, here and now, in spite of all I’m feeling and facing… Thankful, that even now He shows Himself as Faithful and True, alive and ablaze in me, deeper and stronger than any mindset, substance, or anything else in all of Creation.
All praise the power of His name.
Let angels prostrate and fall before Him.
Bring forth the royal diadem and crown Him the Lord of all.
The God we believe in, the God we serve, the God we celebrate is, as was recently composed; He is our Waymaker. According to another hymn sang decades ago, He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
This God we cry out to is our Miracle Worker; because we believe in the Miracle above all miracles – Christ’s death and resurrection – we know that He works breakthroughs in our lives, and for all within our spheres of influence. He works all things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
He is our Promise Keeper – He spoke Light at the beginning, and up until this day, stars continue to come to existence. He gave His Word that He never leaves us… and, by His Spirit, we are constantly reminded that nothing can ever separate us from His love, all thanks to the finished work of Christ.
Oh, praise His name! For He is the Light in the darkness, so it just naturally follows, how we believe and sing out – that even when we don’t see it, He is working, that even when we don’t feel it, He is working… and He never stops working.
Give glory to His name! For even now, He works in and around me, through me, by me, above me and beside me. Not because of who I am, but because of who He is, and because of all He has done.
I thank Him now… for reconciliation, for conviction, for reunion, for healing; I thank Him, for realignment, for motivation, for direction, for inspiration; for wisdom, for strength, for provision, for protection. He is all this, and more.
His name is great, and greatly to be praised.
Amen, and halleluyah.
