Just finished the entire Warrior TV series that started in 2019. Burned through the 3 seasons it lasted… and, well, it was pretty entertaining. The one-on-one matches between Ah Sahm and whoever the writers pitted him against were pretty hardcore, to the point that I did my own heavy bag and shadow boxing workouts shirtless. And that left me pretty satisfied with how my arms looked and felt, but also pretty motivated to just cut off on eating too much because, man, that gut was pretty out there.
Also, just finished speed reading through the entire Rurouni Kenshin manga. I saw what was shown and what was taken out of the anime, and I gotta tell you, there was a lot in the manga which I understood why it stayed in the manga. Lots of deep stuff. Lessons, and such.
And, yeah, that was me in a rush to do some consuming… and I would probably have written more about stuff I gathered and learned from Ah Sahm and Kenshin, but I think we’re set to do some creating now… even if the stuff that I’m creating here and now isn’t so entertaining.
Well, as a reminder to myself, this isn’t for entertainment, anyway – it’s supposed to be a compounding act of clarification, and a clarifying act of compounding. See, that wasn’t really supposed to make any sense, either.
Blah.
Thank You, Lord, for the reading of Your Word.
Psalm 109
Plea for Judgment of False Accusers
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.
1 Do not keep silent, O God of my praise!
2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
3 They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause.
4 In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself to prayer.
5 Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.
The nature of David’s accusers:
- Wicked – With little to no virtue. Ungodly, full of condemnation; They condemn as they are condemned.
- Deceitful – With little to no Truth. Full of lies – they deceive as they are deceived.
- They openly speak against David with lies.
- They surround David with words of hate.
- As a response to David’s love, they accuse him and fight against him without cause.
- They reward evil for good, and hatred for love.
Consider that when people openly come against us, attacking us with lies and speaking to those around us, if not surrounding us with literal words of hate – it’s not always going to be in response to anything we did to them, but it will always involve condemnation and deception planted in them.
6 Set a wicked man over him, And let an accuser stand at his right hand.
7 When he is judged, let him be found guilty, And let his prayer become sin.
8 Let his days be few, And let another take his office.
9 Let his children be fatherless, And his wife a widow.
10 Let his children continually be vagabonds, and beg; Let them seek their bread also from their desolate places.
11 Let the creditor seize all that he has, And let strangers plunder his labor.
12 Let there be none to extend mercy to him, Nor let there be any to favor his fatherless children.
13 Let his posterity be cut off, And in the generation following let their name be blotted out.
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD, And let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.
15 Let them be continually before the LORD, That He may cut off the memory of them from the earth;
16 Because he did not remember to show mercy, But persecuted the poor and needy man, That he might even slay the broken in heart.
17 As he loved cursing, so let it come to him; As he did not delight in blessing, so let it be far from him.
18 As he clothed himself with cursing as with his garment, So let it enter his body like water, And like oil into his bones.
19 Let it be to him like the garment which covers him, And for a belt with which he girds himself continually.
20 Let this be the LORD’s reward to my accusers, And to those who speak evil against my person.
David’s plea to the Lord against these folks is pretty intense, spanning 15 verses of what he wants the Lord to do against them:
- Send wicked men and accusers.
- Let them receive judgments according to their guilt. Let their prayer beyond offensive as sin.
- Don’t let them live long. Don’t let them stay in their position.
- Cut off their bloodline. Don’t let them have any further children, and come against their existing children.
I could go on, but like I said, intense. I see this in line with God’s words to Moses in Deuteronomy 28, where He said much regarding the details of the blessings of the righteous… but much more regarding the punishment of the wicked.
21 But You, O GOD the Lord, Deal with me for Your name’s sake; Because Your mercy is good, deliver me.
22 For I am poor and needy, And my heart is wounded within me.
23 I am gone like a shadow when it lengthens; I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees are weak through fasting, And my flesh is feeble from lack of fatness.
25 I also have become a reproach to them; When they look at me, they shake their heads.
26 Help me, O LORD my God! Oh, save me according to Your mercy,
27 That they may know that this is Your hand— That You, LORD, have done it!
In this composition, David decided to talk of the wicked and deceitful, as well as what he wants done against them, BEFORE he talks about how he feels about the whole situation. He asked for vindication before asking for help.
It’s understandable; Rather, I see how we as folks who are also living in this world are quick to go out for blood, to inflict suffering before noticing our own afflictions. As people in this existence we tend to be very short-sighted, and quick to speak – and, in this case, David was quick to write.
It’s as if he skipped the denial phase and went straight to anger, and now quickly dives into depression, and even bargaining.
I suppose it goes to show that even when we find ourselves rooted and firm in Christ as our foundation, we will still be shaken, we will still react more than we ought to respond, and we will still find ourselves flowing with the mindsets of this reality – but, see, through it all, David doesn’t swear vengeance and recovery according to his abilities, strength and strategies; He trusts the Lord and makes mention of Him in every inch forward, through the emotional roller-coaster he finds himself in.
If anything, folks, I’m reminded of the faithfulness of the Lord, sure and stable, trustworthy and reliable even when we go on our own tirades. Nothing can separate us from the love of our Father – no death or life, no wicked or deceitful people; Heck, even our own myopic reactions cannot separate us from Him.. but, actually, we find ourselves mentioning Him and trusting Him even more, through it all.
There’s a picture of the Holy Spirit flowing with us, even if we are acting with vengeance in mind, moving with wrath in our hearts.
28 Let them curse, but You bless; When they arise, let them be ashamed, But let Your servant rejoice.
29 Let my accusers be clothed with shame, And let them cover themselves with their own disgrace as with a mantle.
30 I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; Yes, I will praise Him among the multitude.
31 For He shall stand at the right hand of the poor, To save him from those who condemn him.
Indeed, Father, we may find ourselves in the same situations as David – surrounded by accusers and words of hatred, lies and condemnation. But, yes, Father, help us to allow the Holy Spirit to flow with us full circle – so we see that You move in and through us just as much as You do towards everyone else involved…
And in the end, Lord, we give You thanks, because it’ll always, always end with us praising You and beholding Your greatness and goodness.
To You be all the glory and praise, Father. Thank You for today’s reminder.
In the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
