On Excellence

I wake up to see the sunlight, and I couldn’t help but take a walk, which turned into a run, and eventually turned into a moment for me to write, despite the sudden drizzles and the fact that my phone was running on fumes.

And just when I thought I was done writing and getting everything from my head through my heart to my hands to text, I find myself starting something new… undiluted, and fresh.

It was something I’ve had on my mind for so long, but I couldn’t shake because I didn’t have the words.

Apparently, all I had to do was start it.

————

I’ve had my share of gaining and losing.

As I write that I think to myself, does quantity or quality even matter anymore? Perhaps not for my personal preferences.

But here’s the thing. God is not just excellent but perfect, not just bountiful but limitless and everlasting. And His unattainable standards came all out, and He bet His chips all-in, that all of Him would be reconciled with all of us… so now, by Christ’s death and resurrection we are as close to God as we will ever be – We are one with Christ, and He is one with us.

We used to push for excellence according to how the world defines and demands it. But now that Perfection is alive in us, no less than Christ Himself is seen in our success, and His overwhelming grace is seen even more in our failures. Now that we have eternity in our hearts, we don’t do what we do to impress everyone, but we what we do comes first and foremost from the truth that the Creator of the Universe, perfect and eternal, is pleased with us.

We used to push for excellence. Now, we conquer from perfection.

And again, it’s not like we aren’t going to sin. It’s not like we’re never going to make a mistake.

Actually, at this point, I’d rather let P.O.D. drive the point home.

“It’s beyond my control, sometimes it’s best to let go

Whatever happens in this lifetime

So I trust in love

You have given me peace of mind

I, I feel so alive

for the very first time..”

Dear reader, there is a Way infinitely superior to being driven out of fear of failure. There is a Way, far above the standards of the world, beyond the demands of excellence we dictate upon ourselves and others. There is a Way, against such there is no law.

Christ is perfect love.

And perfect love casts out all fear.
