Navigating the Ghost Month, Rooted in Christ (263/365)

Discussing what I shared Sunday, August 11, 2026.

Yesterday morning I had the opportunity and privilege to hang out with the morning services, and I also saw how they were able to make adjustments to their worship services; their pastors and music teams needed to make last minute changes because there was no electricity in the facility.

Later in the day, as I drove home to pick my Mom up for our afternoon service, I confirmed that the linesmen were making repairs close to the church building. Thinking that the power outage was likely going to be for the entire day, I stopped for powdered coffee and candles on the way home. I also told our folks in the canteen to have boiling water ready for whoever dared to travel amidst what’s apparently just monsoon rains, whoever braved the wind and water to attend our worship service.

I thought we were going to have a nice, solemn, candle-lit service. To my surprise, when we returned to the building, the lights were on. The team was making adjustments, but power came back 2 o’clock on the dot, just in time for worship.

We proceeded with recording a ‘lighter’ service… and when it came to my turn on the podium I couldn’t help but mention how we certainly had some divine favor. I mean, I observed resilience and good adjustments from the morning services, but I was grinning from ear to ear because power came back for just us.

I thought it was just right for me to mention this for all to hear – I had one person in mind, in particular. Let me share.

For every month since the as early as the start of this year, the church ladies have been gathering on the third Wednesday of every month to pray for each other, to share stories and testimonies, and to celebrate the Lord with food and fellowship.

For August 2026, however, the hosting service requested a move from the usual Wednesday to Friday, which was unfortunately also around the time for rehearsal for our worship team for the afternoon service. This move did not sit very well with one member of this worship team.

In short, I went ahead and announced the move from Wednesday to Friday, with the proviso that if the Lord would move, then He would, just as He allowed us to have power in our service.

Just sharing it here, mostly for my reference. The Lord has been moving in our service, just as He is moving in my own personal career, and in the businesses we’re starting. And for some reason, seeing the Lord move in things gives me assurance that He is working all the more on things where I’m not seeing any progression at all.

It’s weird, I know. Favor in one regard reminds us of God’s faithfulness in all aspects… Our so-called reasons to be discouraged are turned into reasons to hope and to take heart.

Putting that out of the way, I proceeded to share off the following reflection:

(from August 08, 2026)

Hey look, 08/08 today. That counts for something, right?

Sort of how some folks are really serious about this year’s ‘ghost month’. I read about it. Folks are not going to be getting into serious investments, some going as far as not transacting at all, between August 13 and September 10, citing something along the lines of the ‘ghosts’ being disturbed, and anything that is done in this aforementioned time period would have lesser to no chance of prospering.

I’m only serious about it because I experienced a similar coincidence, some years ago, when all of my open forex trades went bust, and I watched as margin call after margin call just wiped out all of my capital.

It was torture. Now, I’m not about to attribute all of it to it being coincidentally the ‘ghost month’ at the time of the incident, but I’ve experienced enough to see it as possibly being a factor.

Well… now that I think about it, it definitely could have. If enough people who believed in it pulled out investments, or otherwise made moves on their money due to it being the ‘ghost month’, it may have caused the markets to move… to my disadvantage, unfortunately.

I don’t know where all this heightened sensitivity to numerology is coming from. All I know is that I’m observing my being moving towards ensuring that if I get anything started, it’ll have to start during the first half of next week, before the 13th… Just in case.

Oh, and that exact day also happens to be someone’s birthday. She isn’t too important, she just gave birth to me is all. You know. So if ever any of that ‘ghost month’ drivel is true, or if the rest of the world that has money is going to make it ‘true’ by their decisions (or indecision, for that matter), we’re set to start things off with celebration after celebration.

I talked to an associate (who’s now a workmate, I guess) about my thoughts on this ‘ghost month’, and it’s interesting why he was inclined to believe what I shared – from his point of view, China (from who we believe this concept of a ‘ghost month’ came from) is up there with other nations as some of the oldest civilizations in the planet; and apparently that alone should give some sort of credence to what they share.

With that in mind, I could also say that my own Mom has lived on this wretched rock for decades. She’s lived through a lot of world events, witnessed a lot of facts, experienced the Truth – and, apparently, that alone should give some sort of credence to what she shares.

Not about to believe the supernatural connections behind what they’re calling a ‘ghost month’, but (1) I’m thankful for tangible knowledge that has lived on through decades and through entire generations, and (2) I’m even more thankful for our God who has been faithful to my Mom, our elders, and entire nations, through the millennia.

Speaking of which… God has been with us even before the concept of time was conceived and established. With that in mind, it’s not without basis that Christ says that His Word IS Spirit, and IS Life… obviously worth a whole lot more than just credence.

The collective experience of the world bound in time and space is nothing compared to the Word of the infinite, eternal, and everlasting, one true God. The Word of God is valuable as immortality is valuable to the temporal being.

I emphasized that we’re blessed to have wisdom that spans decades and entire generations, but those of us who are part of the body of Christ have His Word (literally as old as time) as divine wisdom…

And though we may not have access to the literal Word of God, let us remember that all of His Word ultimately points to Christ.

I intentionally wore a rootd.ae shirt for that purpose. Presenting the Word of God as an opportunity for all of us to take it seriously, and intentionally. As always I emphasized that we don’t need to be given the titles of pastors or ministers to derive wonderful things from God’s Word; In fact, I told everyone who was present that the revelations of the Lord would be unique for each and every one of us… (but now that I’m thinking about it I should have re-emphasized that it all points to Christ)

There was more I could speak on, but I chose to end it there, praying for everyone who heard and would hear – for a good week ahead, and for God’s word to take deeper root in our being.

Also, honestly, all this was more or less last minute. I know I had a schedule already prepared for message themes between now and the end of September, but with everything going on, I mismanaged my time, and this message could have been better.

As it stands now, my heart for myself and my congregation is for all of us to see the value in intentionally taking time out of a day to involve ourselves in prayer, reflection on the Word of God, and/or worshipping Him, really just giving thanks for who He is, for all He’s done, all He’s doing, and all He will do.

Considering everything that’s progressing, and everything that I’m not seeing movement as I see fit… It’s brought me to dusting off the old guitar and strumming and singing a little more, especially these past few days where electricity was intermittent, if not totally out for extended periods of time.

As it helped before, so it helps now.

Moses was asked what he had, and what he had was a rod. God told him to throw the rod onto the ground, and it turned to a snake. God then told him to grab the snake, and it turned back into a rod.

During a famine, Elijah asked a widow what she had, and she told him about how they had enough flour and oil for one last cake to eat before dying. Elijah asked to eat the cake instead. He then told the widow and her son to gather all of the jars and pitchers in the home, and they were all supernaturally filled with the best quality oil.

Jesus told his disciples to feed the multitude; He then asked a boy among them, what he had. He took the five loaves and two fish, gave thanks, divided the food and kept dividing until all five thousand men in the said multitude were fed, with twelve baskets worth of leftovers.

I forgot to share that I shared this before talking about the ‘ghost’ month and the superiority of God’s Word. But, here, I’m saying that whatever little we have, offered with intention, is partnering with God for miracles and breakthroughs.

And for those of us in the body of Christ, we may not have great skill or sizable resources… we may not even have sticks, or food – But, well, in my case, I have my voice, and I have time.

We really should be taking on this opportunity of getting rooted.

We all have time. We all have our senses.

And at the VERY least, which is the VERY best, too – We have the Word. We have Christ, the living Word.

Amen.

7 The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul;

The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;

8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart;

The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever;

The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.

10 More to be desired are they than gold,

Yea, than much fine gold;

Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

11 Moreover by them Your servant is warned,

And in keeping them there is great reward. Psalms 19:7-11

1 Blessed is the man

Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,

Nor stands in the path of sinners,

Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,

And in His law he meditates day and night.

3 He shall be like a tree

Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,

Whose leaf also shall not wither;

And whatever he does shall prosper. Psalms 1:1-3

37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.John 5:37-39
