I’m tempted to succumb to feeling anxious about something about to happen soon – tomorrow, to be precise. Prior to writing this I remember that I had these sorts of feelings because I believed that the upcoming event was doomed to failure.
But praise God, because it really helps when He reminds us of how absolutely sovereign He is. Now, Michael Gungor may not think much of the Noah story but I believe now that what happened to that man of God so long ago is a reminder of how our senses may not see everything we need to see for us to get into something feeling fully confident. It is during these times – and every other time, really – that our hope, our anchor, our trust must be in that which is true…
…and what could be more in tune with the truth, more than He Himself from Whom grace and truth came from – Jesus Christ? Brother, sister… This is a message to me as much as it is for any of us – Christ is our Blessed Assurance.
Christ slept even through the storm, waking up to declare, ‘PEACE! BE STILL!’… And the winds and sea obeyed Him.
Christ, He calmly wrote on the dirt before a bloodthirsty mob itching to stone an adulteress to death, declaring ‘Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.’… And one by one, her accusers walked away without a word.
Christ, though faced with the greatest temptations man could ever struggle with, rebuked satan to his face, the third time saying “Be gone, satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’” And satan left Him, and angels came to minister to Him.
Christ, beaten, mocked, scorned, betrayed, hated, humiliated, accused… Was before Pontius Pilate who declared, ‘don’t you know I have the power to set you free, and the power to crucify you?’
To which He responded, ‘You have no power over me unless it was given to you from above.’
On the same day, in spite of all mankind, – past, present, and future – being in enmity with the Son of God… He gave His life up in an exchange, dying that we would live.
It is because of Christ that we live, and it is by no means that we live driven by fear. By no means do we live worried and anxious. Friend, in Christ, His perfect love casts out all our fear!
Do not focus on the mountain more than our Savior, Jesus Christ, who is for us – and if He is for us, who can be against us?
Soli Deo Gloria.
