Christ’s Permanence & Supremacy / November 30, 2023 (294/365)

Diving into Psalm 30 today, and seeing The Absolute Authority And Everlasting Faithfulness Of Christ.

But first, here’s what we gather about the Psalm from the trusty app, eSword:

“JOY COMETH IN THE MORNING”

This psalm dates from 2 Samuel 5:11. What a contrast between Adullam’s cave and the house of cedar! When God has lifted us up in mercy, we should lift Him up in song.

Apparently David had been passing through a time of sickness or intense sorrow, and now he could not be thankful enough for God’s redeeming mercy. When shall we realize that God both forgives sin and redeems us from its eternal consequences! Weeping is here personified; she is only a lodger, who tarries for the brief Eastern night, and then, veiled, glides out of the house at daybreak. With the first ray of light Joy comes to abide, and we hear His hearty salutation in the vestibule.

We need more of the joy of the Lord. The first touch of pain makes us cry, Psalm 30:8; but we are slow to put on and wear the girdle and the garments of gladness. Be of good cheer, sad friend; God will yet turn “the shadow of death into the morning!”

I will extol you, O LORD, for you have drawn me up and have not let my foes rejoice over me.

As I go through this I am reminded that we aren’t always going to win.

Sure, we’d lose, because of our wrong choices and/or because of our delaying the right moves. We also embrace the possibility of our defeat, because those who call themselves our foes or enemies have an advantage, and/or they strike at our disadvantage.

We will take in some losses – BUT the Truth of the matter is that even in our losses, or even in our defeats, our good Lord draws us up (other translations say He rescues us, or He lifted us up)… and more importantly, though they win and we lose, our good God does not allow those who call themselves our enemies to rejoice over us.

The Truth of the matter is, even in times where we are in a season of defeat, we extol the Lord. We praise the Lord, because though we take losses in battles, those of us who are in Christ know that through Him, the overall war has already been won.

O LORD my God, I cried to you for help, and you have healed me.

O LORD, you have brought up my soul from Sheol; you restored me to life from among those who go down to the pit.

We continue to give praise and thanks to God, for as the Psalmist exclaims, not only does our God ensure that our enemies will not have the victory, but He also makes sure the other side of the coin is addressed – that is, He also ensures that we will not be defeated. We will not be fully consumed by darkness and by Sheol, nor shall we always be in the pit forever. In this regard we see another perspective to healing – He does not allow affliction to totally consume us, nor does He allow us to be in pain, forever.

Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.

For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.

We will not always be in mourning. We will not always experience wrath. What is permanent, what is absolute and what is everlasting for us is our favor under the Name above all Names. We may find ourselves in dire straits, but by Christ’s finished work, we can boldly say that it shall pass; Or, it shall eventually fade before the everlasting love of our God… and, again, it is not because of our own thinking or doing, but all because of Christ, who thought it was well for Him to do all the work for our salvation and rescue.

As for me, I said in my prosperity, “I shall never be moved.”

By your favor, O LORD, you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.

To you, O LORD, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy: “What profit is there in my death, if I go down to the pit? Will the dust praise you? Will it tell of your faithfulness? Hear, O LORD, and be merciful to me! O LORD, be my helper!”

And even in our ill-placed arrogance, our God is still faithful to us. When we find our confidence and our motivation from ourselves, our achievements and/or our plans, it’s just a natural consequence for us to feel dismay – But even then, friends, let us rejoice – for even if it is of our own doing that we stumble, fall and get hurt, even there we know that God is with us. And, again, it’s all because of Christ. By His faithfulness, we are helped… and through Christ we take in God’s great mercies, as high as the heavens are from the earth.

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.

O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever! And O LORD my God, I praise You, for you deserve it! You deserve all the praise, glory, recognition, and all the accolades, all because of Christ!

For behold, from Christ’s finished work we have Peace. And TRUE peace that matters.

I give thanks to God, for this everlasting Peace, that is present in pain, pleasure, and pause.

I give glory to His name, for this Peace that pulls us from shortsightedness to consider all angles, as only an everlasting Peace can.

By the power of the Holy Spirit, I recognize all that is causing me anxiety right here, right now, and I say that Christ is still and will always be worthy of praise. Only Christ can take His rightful place in the forefront, and in the pedestals of our minds. He is the Prince of Peace that is on top of all other things and all other people we think are important or have the most value.

The peace that can only come from Him opens my eyes to the supremacy of what I have – WHO I have, who is Christ – over all other things and people that I do not have. Blessed be His name.

This message is quite personal to me, at this time, in recognition of all the rearranging and all the clarification that’s been going on. I just have to say that Christ truly does respond when we call, and He responds with His full and complete wisdom and power. Sometimes we see it, sometimes we don’t – but I have reason to believe that Christ responds to us, no matter what. And that’s the thing, I suppose – He HAS responded to us in the past, He IS responding to us now, and He WILL respond to us in the future. The King of Kings’ finished work is the response of all responses, and it is from this action of actions that I act.

He holds me. He is with me, taking His place in the forefront and in the top pedestal – but really, in all aspects and perspectives of my life; He is Emmanuel – God With Me, whether what I do results in pain and rejection, pleasurable chances, or pause and suspense.

I needed this to psych myself up. And if you’ve reached this far, well, I’d appreciate a prayer.

Until the next post, God bless you.
