The King’s Victory – November 21, 2023 (286/365)

I apologize in advance if this all sounds like me rambling. I’m not stopping to see if any of this that I’m putting out of my brain will sit will with whoever happens to read this – This is just me, trying to enjoy His word. By the grace of God I’m unceremoniously eating through all of it with my hands, taking in all the lip-smacking goodness without regard for the notion that I should be using a proper knife and fork.

O LORD, in your strength the king rejoices, and in your salvation how greatly he exults!

You have given him his heart’s desire and have not withheld the request of his lips. Selah

We give our God, our Father, praise and thanks. We rejoice, for indeed, we are in Him, and He is in us; His strength is our strength. And see, in His strength we realize our Salvation… and as such, when we ponder upon our Salvation, we draw strength.

Because Christ is our Salvation, we can also say that Christ is our Strength. And because we read elsewhere that the joy of the Lord is our Strength, so we could say that Christ is the ultimate expression of the Joy of the Lord. So much to draw from the Salvation we have in Christ! He is FAR more than merely a ticket to heaven when we die:

We are saved in His strength, so we rejoice!

We draw strength as we rejoice in His salvation!

We rejoice, for our absolute salvation is a demonstration of His boundless strength!

In our salvation, we rejoice, and our strength is renewed!

Indeed, how greatly we exult. And I believe that beyond the desires we can conjure up for ourselves in our limited mind and body, He has fulfilled the desire of our entire being. For all the requests we have from our own lips, we can say that He responds according to His name; His character is for us, and He desires for us to be saved, our strength to be renewed, and for us to draw joy.

How can I make such presumptions of our Creator? Friends, it’s all because of Christ – For through Christ and His finished work are we saved, absolutely: This salvation, our salvation in Christ being the demonstration of God’s strength, the expression of God’s joy. I lay claim to what the Psalmist writes for ‘the king’, for the King of Kings has done it all for me to be reconciled to God.

With that in mind, I suppose I could see the rest of Psalm 21, with Christ in mind as the King:

For you meet him with rich blessings; you set a crown of fine gold upon his head.

He asked life of you; you gave it to him, length of days forever and ever.

His glory is great through your salvation; splendor and majesty you bestow on him.

Indeed, because of what Christ has done, we ascribe blessings, life, glory, splendor, and majesty upon Him.

For you make him most blessed forever; you make him glad with the joy of your presence.

For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the steadfast love of the Most High he shall not be moved.

As Christ has trusted in the Lord – the only begotten Son trusting the Father – so He is glad in His presence, where there is fullness of joy. And I suppose, seeing through the rest of the Psalm, that we should not be content with merely being unmovable. Indeed, Christ is our Rock, but as we continue to read what the Psalmist had to share, apparently we are to realize that we could not speak of His absolute victory and His infinite superiority without making mention of how utterly vanquished our enemies are. It adds more sense to when we read elsewhere – Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered.

Your hand will find out all your enemies; your right hand will find out those who hate you.

You will make them as a blazing oven when you appear.

The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath, and fire will consume them.

You will destroy their descendants from the earth, and their offspring from among the children of man.

Though they plan evil against you, though they devise mischief, they will not succeed.

For you will put them to flight; you will aim at their faces with your bows.

Praise and glory to the Lord God Almighty, for in His strength and in His joy, He has caused Christ’s enemies to be cut from hope; That is, they themselves are fully consumed in fire, and utterly swallowed in wrath; Their descendants who plan evil are destroyed, and their offspring are put to flight from having anything to do with the children of man. Their plans are brought to failure, and they flee!

Oh, praise God, for Christ who is our living Hope! For in how our enemies our dealt with, so we are treated with favor. The enemy is swallowed, while we are embraced. The enemy is consumed, while, by the Holy Spirit, we are made fruitful. The enemy’s descendants are vanquished and bound, while we are refreshed, and reconciled. While their plans are brought to futility, we trust in the Lord; we acknowledge Him in our plans, and our thoughts are established. They flee from rest and from their homes, while in Christ we are at rest, and always safe in Him.

Be exalted, O LORD, in your strength!

We will sing and praise your power.
