Glad to hear Princess speak of thanksgiving in parallel to giving – If you have trouble giving, give thanks.
And with that said:
I’m thankful to the Lord because the Typhoon is long gone. That’ll mean a more likely chance we’d have electricity at home and there’d be no need to move out just to work.
Thankful to see brother Juan and sister Helen. Pneumonia bows down before the name of Jesus.
Thankful that Anthony lost but he still praises God. We will always have a reason to praise God.
Thankful that the Lord continues to do a mighty work in the company Daniel and I are working for.
Thankful that the Lord continues to do a mighty work in our company with Lanz.
Thankful to the Aces and all the Lord is doing in your lives.
Thankful I drove Mom here. Cough and phlegm bow down before the name of Jesus.
Thankful for the continued healing of Brother Ronald and family.
Thankful for the continued healing of Mama Suzette and sister Ming.
We thank Him for what’s been done, what He’s doing and what He will do.
He ALONE is God Eternal throughout earth and heaven above.
God, eternal: Timeless God.
Throughout earth and heaven above: Borderless God.
Last week we spoke on disaster preparedness, and we touched base on stuff you want to do before bad things happen… and stuff you do when the bad things happen.
And, really, when you talk about bad things, we went pretty specific with earthquakes and cyber-attacks, but it’s all pretty general, right? I mean, before anything happens, you want to do the following: Make sure you have a bug-out bag ready. Make sure your documents are in a safe place and digitally backed up.
Make sure you have an emergency fund worth at least 2-3 months of your monthly expenses, in cash AND in the bank if you can afford it. Also make sure that you have 2-3 months worth of resources to sustain you and your family. Within those 2-3 months you should have a long-term adjustment/sustainability plan based on what’s going on.
When things actually happen, secure your person, secure your surroundings and the people around you, call for help. You see that in the earthquake example – Drop, Cover and Hold-On. You see you that in those Airplane Safety Videos – Put the oxygen mask on yourself before putting it on for your child/seatmate. You also see it in active shooter situations – Run, Hide, Fight.
Didn’t we also talk about how we, in the body of Christ, ought to respond? And here’s the thing – we aren’t just concerned about issues of the world and of our person, but we also deal with matters of the Spirit.
There’s the consequences of our past coming back to haunt us and to bring us back to bondage. There’s the scandal and the shame of the present, and the presence of those who exalt their name above the name of Jesus, and those who would downplay His grace and glory. There’s the general anxiety of the future, the Endtimes and the Second Coming of Christ.
I know I emphasized on the importance of the Word last week, and I just want to expand on that today, just so we keep two things in mind: We have the Spirit who helps us, and we have the Word that sustains us – Before, during, and after all things. In season and out of season.
We have the Holy Spirit, who helps us. In crisis, as small as a dispute or as big as disaster, we: Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.Galatians 5:1
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.2 Corinthians 3:17
It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.2 Timothy 1:7
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”Romans 8:15
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.John 16:13
And not only do we have the Holy Spirit to help us, but we are able to help others and ourselves by way of the Word:
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11
All to Jesus – It all points to Jesus. The Spirit comes from Jesus, and Jesus is the Word made flesh.
The Holy Spirit points to Jesus: He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.John 16:14
The Word and the Scripture points to Jesus: You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.John 5:39
It all points back to Jesus. The Spirit testifies of Jesus. The Word points to Jesus.
Be led by the Spirit.
Speak the Word to yourself and to your community, and to the world.
Amen.
