Strength and Protection (Psalm 18) – August 18, 2025 (287/365)

Thankful for another week, thankful for another day. Thankful for this hour. Thankful for this minute. Thankful for these seconds.

Thankful for these breaths. Thankful for every beat of my heart. Thankful for every word I type, and all it takes just for me to rant and to release.

Thankful for electricity and thankful for an internet connection. Thankful for a stable device, and thankful for protection from digital infections.

Thankful for creativity, thankful for vocabulary, thankful for adrenaline and for… yeah, endorphins.

Thankful for the Holy Spirit, flowing in and through me right now. Thankful, for this Spirit is a Spirit of Truth, that leads me into all truth.

Thankful for this Spirit of Adoption, which continues to convict me of my right-standing with God, so much so that I am able to call the Creator of the Universe my ‘Abba, Father’.

Thankful for the Holy Spirit, that prays on my behalf – either helping me with my words and prayer, or praying in intercession in groanings beyond understanding.

On that note, I am thankful for peace beyond understanding, and the promise of the Lord – that we should not be anxious about anything, and that we can lift all in our minds to Him, in prayer and thanksgiving and supplication.

I am thankful, very thankful – For Christ, through whom all of this is guaranteed.

1 I love you, O LORD, my strength.

2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

3 I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.

Psalm 18:1-3

I give thanks to the Lord our God, for He is my Strength; My Rock, my Fortress, my Deliverer.

Oh, join me in giving thanks to our God and Father, for He is our Shield, our Horn of salvation, and our Stronghold.

We are safe in Him, we are protected, and as the writer of Psalm 91 says – No evil shall come near us, and it shall not touch us; We are saved from our enemies, because of our Lord – and here we have even more reason to praise Him, and to give thanks to Him.

It’s Monday, and for so many of us, we’re going back into the grind of the weekdays, working, dealing with people, facing encounters unique for that day.

For some of us, it’s harrowing enough to get through the day on our own; But for those of us with families and folks under our charge, we also have the responsibility and the opportunity to ensure that they get through the day, themselves.

If overthinking did any good for us, I say it’s for us to realize that there is just so much out of our control. For some of us, it’s impossible to keep an eye on everyone and every single moment. And now that I mention it, that’s the situation for a whole bunch of us, now isn’t it?

All the same, as in every day, not just on Mondays – we would do well to come to terms with ourselves.

We would do well to revisit our Rock and our Foundation, and to recall that it is in God that we place our trust. It is in Christ that we stand, and all other rock is sinking sand.

We stand, and we are saved from our enemies.

The enemy of our souls cannot come near us, for we are in the loving arms of our everlasting Savior – so close to Him that even when we find ourselves so weak that we couldn’t even ‘hold on’ to Him, He’s actually the One who holds us, embracing us.

This old devil is as a lion, prowling and roaring and looking for who to devour – but we’re reminded, as we’ve been told before: That’s all He can do is to shout. The Lion of Judah is on our side, watching us, protecting us, and also singing songs of deliverance over us.

We shall not always be intimidated, but, again, it is the peace that goes beyond all understanding that dwells in our hearts and minds, permanently.

31 For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?—

32 the God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless.

33 He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.

34 He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

35 You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great.

36 You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip.

Psalm 18:31-36

Indeed, praise and glory to the Lord our God.

Thanks and praise to our Savior, Jesus Christ. For not only are we protected from the outside, but He strengthens us from within, as well.

We testify of God’s protection, and the enemy not being victorious over us; But, we also testify of God’s provision and provocation, and our being victorious over the enemy.

37 I pursued my enemies and overtook them, and did not turn back till they were consumed.

38 I thrust them through, so that they were not able to rise; they fell under my feet.

39 For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.

40 You made my enemies turn their backs to me, and those who hated me I destroyed.

41 They cried for help, but there was none to save; they cried to the LORD, but he did not answer them.

42 I beat them fine as dust before the wind; I cast them out like the mire of the streets.

Psalm 18:37-42

Indeed, we are thankful. The prophet Isaiah shares in supplement to this, I believe – that as we wait on the Lord, our strength and youth shall be renewed.

Much so, that we are able to pursue and overtake our enemies; We are made to be so precise, that our blows cause them to fall, not being able to rise – Christ’s absolute victory celebrated in our own absolute victories.

All in all I just thank God, because He is for me, and never against me. I am able to make all of these claims, because of Christ who demonstrated God’s love for us, leaving His glory and dying for us, that we who were once led astray, have been brought back to Him, reconciled to Him.

All in all, I have to thank God, because through Christ we have been moved from darkness into His kingdom, and now seated in heavenly places, through we exist here and now within time and space – because Christ Himself is seated at the right hand of the Father.

It’s so helpful for me now, to know that nothing can ever separate me from His love – even in situations with no options or solutions, I claim the promise of the Word, that even in those moments the Holy Spirit is faithful to remind me, to convict me of my righteousness; That even when nothing goes my way, the Lord is with me, for me, not against me, helping me according to His eternal wisdom and infinite strength; Willing and able to lift me on His shoulders, according to His everlasting love.

46 The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock, and exalted be the God of my salvation—

47 the God who gave me vengeance and subdued peoples under me,

48 who rescued me from my enemies; yes, you exalted me above those who rose against me; you delivered me from the man of violence.

49 For this I will praise you, O LORD, among the nations, and sing to your name.

50 Great salvation he brings to his king, and shows steadfast love to his anointed, to David and his offspring forever.

Psalm 18:46-50

All glory and honor to the Lord God Almighty – the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of Israel, the Father of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Thank You, now and always, for everything. Amen.
