‘The Wonderful Works of God’ (Pentecost 2025) – June 08, 2025 (217/365)

Worship Service Notes:

14 But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more.

Psalm 71:14

Exhortations:

In our victories, in our defeats; In our progression, in all that’s fading away;

Though we are alone or surrounded by enemies and uncertainty, or even in our safety, in our being with the brethren;

In all we’re anticipating, in all we’re consequently fearing or in all we’re looking forward to;

In all the constants, in all the uncertainty; In all we’ve left behind, and in all we’re moving on from;

In our relationships, in our personal lives;

In our affliction, as much as in our health; In our hopes, and in our fears; In our lack, and in our plenty; In the darkness, as in the light…

In all of this, oh, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we proclaim, we declare, our response will be that by Christ, We will hope continually, and we will praise Him yet more and more!

We’re happy, and we praise Him! We’re sad, and we praise Him! In all things, let us praise Him!

And/Or: I’ve often said we have more reasons to thank God than to complain, now I’m saying we have more reasons to praise than to fear!

Giving:

I’m working again. And I’m scared… but more excited.

Was told to lead out of nowhere. Had reasons to be scared… but well, it was more exciting. Or I hope you were blessed.

SafetyFirst. Coming up, and we’re scared. Lanz and I are scared, anyway… but we’re more excited.

4 Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name.

5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.

Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.Psalm 30:4-5

When we give, we may have our doubts.

We’re scared… But trust me, the more you take in how much you’ve received, the more you’re excited.

And just so you know, just as a reminder, what you do give goes to our ministry – so we can keep congregating every Sunday, so we can keep ministering to Bahay Pagasa and the Silungan Center, and so on.

We thank you, and we pray that the Lord continue to bless you.

Intro: Pentecost

Pentecostals, Baptists, Methodist, Lutherans, Roman Catholics.

All come from Christ, all point back to Christ – or at least, that’s how it should be.

Pentecost: The outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Main Verse: The wonderful works of God

1 When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. 3 And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. 6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one was hearing them speak in his own language. 7 And they were amazed and astonished, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, 11 both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians—we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

Acts 2:1-12

Other translations: ‘wonders of God’, ‘great things of God’, ‘mighty deeds of God’, ‘magnificent acts of God’, ‘the miracles/great deeds/wonderful things that God has done’

What are the wonderful works of God?

1 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,Psalms 103:1-2

  • He teaches us.
    • Exodus 4:11-12: “Then the LORD said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the LORD? 12 Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.
    • Psalms 25:8-9: “Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.
  • He helps us. He strengthens us. He upholds us.
    • Exodus 15:2: “The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.”
    • Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
  • He is with us.
    • Genesis 28:15: “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.
    • Jeremiah 1:6-8: “Then I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.” 7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’; for to all to whom I send you, you shall go, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, declares the LORD.

But guess what?

It all comes from the Holy Spirit.

We declare that God teaches us, and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth who leads us into all truth.

  • John 16:13-14: When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
  • Acts 8:29-31: And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.” 30 So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” 31 And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
    • We teach as we are taught

We say that God is good, and He has wonderful works! We declare that God helps us, strengthens us and upholds us, and here we say that the Holy Spirit Himself is the Spirit of Power, Love, and a Sound Mind.

  • 2 Timothy 1:6-7: 6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, 7 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

He is with us.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:19: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?”
  • Romans 8:11: “But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit living in you.”

Imagine the goodness of God, and don’t be surprised if you remember and acknowledge the Holy Spirit in the process…

And as you’re thanking God for the Holy Spirit, remember that it was because of Christ that the Holy Spirit has been poured out upon us!

Prior to Benediction:

Ephesians 1:13-14: In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Acts 2:38: And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Believe, receive, conquer!
