Pointing To The Truth (2 Timothy 4) – November 24-27, 2024 (371/365)

Here’s an overview of what we talked about last Sunday, November 24, 2024. I gave the folks a recap regarding the previous chapters of 2 Timothy, before discussing chapter 4 and topping everything off with a collective message.

2 Timothy 1

  • Through Christ, we have patient faith and gifts from God through the Holy Spirit.
    • We are able to bear with each other and we can pray for one another.
    • We are not fearful of suffering, nor are we ashamed of our testimony.
    • We can make decisions, plan, and interact with others in power, love, and self-control.

2 Timothy 2

  • By the Holy Spirit we are able to rightly handle the Word:
    • As soldiers, we listen to our Commanding Officer and trust in His Word.
    • As athletes, we move with discipline and self-control because of the Word.
    • As farmers, we can plant the Word and expect abundant yield.
  • 2 Timothy 1: We are able to bear with each other and we can pray for one another, and also
    • We are gracious in our own words, just as we are gracious in teaching and learning from others.
  • We celebrate Christ, who is the Living Word who ministers to us.

2 Timothy 3

  • Reminded of the corruption from within…
    • 2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, 4 treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people. 6 For among them are those who creep into households and capture weak women, burdened with sins and led astray by various passions, 7 always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. You have the Spirit. You are a Minister.
  • Reminded of the persecution from the outside
    • 12 Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
  • Opposition to the Truth from the inside out, and lies from the outside in.
  • Fortunately, we have the Spirit of Truth that leads us to all truth, and we have the Word of Truth written in our hearts. All because of Christ and His finished work.
  • We are all Ministers.

And from here we jump into 2 Timothy 4:

Preach the Word

1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. 3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. 5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing.

Personal Instructions

9 Do your best to come to me soon. 10 For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia. 11 Luke alone is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is very useful to me for ministry. 12 Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 When you come, bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas, also the books, and above all the parchments. 14 Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds. 15 Beware of him yourself, for he strongly opposed our message. 16 At my first defense no one came to stand by me, but all deserted me. May it not be charged against them! 17 But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth. 18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Final Greetings

19 Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus. 20 Erastus remained at Corinth, and I left Trophimus, who was ill, at Miletus. 21 Do your best to come before winter. Eubulus sends greetings to you, as do Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers.

22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

Romans 1:16

When we discussed the book of Romans, we got a more comprehensive perspective towards this Gospel that served as the power of God unto our salvation. We have a deeper understanding of the salvation we have – It’s not just a ticket to ‘go to heaven’ when we die, it’s FAR more than that! For in the book of Romans we learn (1) of how hopeless we were in sin and the flesh, (2) of how we were doomed to death and oblivion, (3) how, through Christ, we have not only been re-made as new Creations but (3.5) more importantly, fully reconciled to God, much so that we call Him our Father, and (4) how we’ve been made righteous unto eternal Life, filled with the Holy Spirit, here and now unto forever!

This Gospel is our Truth, and Christ is the Way, the Life, AND our Truth.

Here in 2 Timothy we take in more of Christ, the Truth whom we live in, and the Truth alive in us.

The Truth is our armor, and our sword. The Truth is our defense, and our offense.

Our Youth ought to continue to be blessed with the Truth, as we ourselves continue to meditate on the Truth.

The Truth has saved us.

The Truth sustains us.

The Truth strengthens us.

The Truth sends us.

Sorry, I forgot to post this before my talking about the book of Jude. But this is all giving me a clear idea of what our upcoming theme fore 2025 will be.

Also, I know that I reached and hit 365000(!) words for this year, but I think I’m going to be pushing for 400k! There’s so much more to write about, and I hope I’m able to get it done, God-willing!

Till the next post is up, God bless us all; Let’s keep at it, good people!
