The Role Of The Holy Spirit In Worship Is To Unveil The Lord Jesus Christ
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.John 16:13-15
We all need the Holy Spirit to glorify Him, and the Good News is we DO have the Holy Spirit. The involvement and the presence of the Holy Spirit is precisely why our worship is life changing. We glorify Jesus, and our lives are changed.
The reason people in the Gospel are changed when they encounter Christ is because of the Holy Spirit; it’s the Holy Spirit who shows them exactly who they are interacting with. In our case, our senses are also opened to behold Jesus Christ. And as a result, worship is richer and more meaningful.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”Acts 1:8
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18
Paul was referring to the veil of Moses, and it’s by the power of the Holy Spirit that our faces are unveiled; That’s right, our senses are not only led to behold Christ, but see here, our faces are unveiled as well.
If the glory of the Lord is seen in all creation, so the world is with no excuse, the Holy Spirit does all possible for us to see the glory of the Lord in Christ, so we are without escape.
The more we see Jesus, the more we realize our favor. The more we see Jesus, the more effective we get.
The very reason why we have the Bible is to know Jesus and to make Him known.
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.Philippians 3:8
‘surpassing worth’ is ‘excellency’ in the NKJV, and ‘excellency’ is huperechō / hoop-er-ekh’-o / From G5228 and G2192; to hold oneself above, that is, (figuratively) to excel; participle (as adjective, or neuter as noun) superior, superiority: – better, excellency, higher, pass, supreme.
It is the most important thing – not merely the excellent or worthy, but the MOST IMPORTANT thing is knowing Christ.
To see Jesus in all of His glory with unveiled faces and to be transformed from glory to glory is the TRUE abundant life. We have so many definitions of abundance, when Jesus is the absolute in abundance – No Jesus and everything else is simply… the worst.
Christ is first and foremost. Christ is the best and ultimate. Therefore, our first need is Christ, and our best version is who we are in Christ.
A review of 2 Corinthians 3:12-18:
Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts.
The glory emanating from Moses was that of the holy Law of God that exposes sin. This was the glory which had to be covered by the veil; We run from this glory because it reveals and points out our sin.
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.John 1:16-17
But praise God, because the Law came through Moses, but Grace and Truth came through Jesus! And the glory that comes through Christ does not repel, but attract – because that’s how it is! It’s grace that attracts! It’s truth that draws people in!
But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
With that said, we ought to be part of the the body of Christ, which draws people in, and doesn’t push them away! We are sons and daughters of the Most High, giving homage to the son of God, the firstborn!
God never meant for people to relate to Him through a legalistic way but in an intimate relationship. God never meant for us to know Him through the knowledge of Good and Evil, but through the tree of Life, which was also in the same Garden where Adam and Eve were.
God’s holiness is so beautiful but at the same time it exposes man’s failure and sinfulness. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Through our faith in Jesus, the veil of the Law is removed. We will still sin, but surely it will fade, lesser and lesser into nothingness… We still sin, not because we want to, but because we lack wisdom – and as we grow, we say no – sin fades, and wisdom through Christ grows and glows.
So the veil is removed, that we would see Jesus in His glory – and the more we see Him, the more we are transformed by the renewing of our minds.
Law makes us self-conscious and is a constant reminder of our failures.
God’s grace in Christ makes us Jesus-conscious, and is a constant reminder of His love and finished work on the cross.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6
God has finished a work in us, by placing Christ in us, completely.
Sorry, this feels all over the place. Got a lot on my mind. Not complaining, just… full.
May the Lord bless us all, God knows I need to take it all in. Sorry.
