This fool wishes one thing, for all of us as much as for himself:
And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
1 Samuel 3:19
May our words have worth, in the service of others, more than ourselves.
And, indeed, may our words find their worth in our thoughts, if only to imply that our thoughts precede our words – That we would care for our words just as, say, a mother cares for the food she prepares for her children.
May we care for our words with thought; May our thoughtfulness be seen in our words, as a craftsman would refuse to release one of his wares, substandard in his eyes, in spite of the rest of the world insisting that it is enough; as a painter cares for his art with every stroke, knowing when he strikes the final one, knowing when to stop.
May our thoughts be with love, just as our Creator not only knows all there is to know about us, but surely thinks about us; The same Creator who is for us, and not against us, intentionally thinks about us at every given moment, from all angles imaginable and beyond, and within or beyond the confines of time.
And, finally, when in doubt of our words, our thoughts, and of love – let us never forget that it’s not according to our strength, much less our accomplishments, that we are able to make such claims and cautions; Let us always remember that is was, is, and will always be because of our Savior that we have such a great confidence, which is expressed, most of all, in our words.
May our words have worth, as through Christ, we have worth.
May our words be in the service of others, just as Christ was bold to speak up for those who could not defend themselves.
May our words be beyond self-serving, and far beyond insecurity, just as Christ did not think twice, not only to speak up, but to lay down all of His being for the salvation of the world.
I sure spoke a lot and wrote a lot last quarter; the first quarter of 2024, that is. And while I could run all my words through a man-made brain, or through AI analysis to get to the real gist I had to say over these 91 days from January to March (Counting the leap-year February 29th), I’m already making assumptions of what really does stick out through all the drivel.
And I suppose this is of more value, because it may not appear on any of the results I do pull up from more technological approaches to analysis, but it is more valuable because it stuck.
I’ll be honest, I pulled this up – or, rather, I was forced to wring my brain regarding last quarter, because the folks who would be deciding on the next set of songs to sing this coming Sunday, asked me what verses I had in mind to share.
First verse was Romans 10:10-11: For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.”
The ‘Scripture’ Paul mentions here is from Isaiah 28:16:
therefore thus says the Lord GOD,
“Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion,
a stone, a tested stone,
a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation:
‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’
I suppose we can put these two verses from both Old and New Testament together, to say that, everyone/whoever believes will not be in haste, nor shall he or she be put to shame.
While putting those two together, a song composed from David’s words comes to mind:
To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
O my God, in you I trust;
let me not be put to shame;
let not my enemies exult over me.
Psalms 25:1-2
Surely, we can say that as we believe in Christ, it also implies that we lift our souls to Him and trust in Him. As such, we will not be put to shame (as fulfilled in Romans 10:10-11), nor shall our enemies exult over us (and send us running or ‘in haste’ as quoted from Isaiah 28:16).
But some may still ask: What does it mean to believe? What does it mean to lift our soul to the LORD? What does it mean to trust in Him? Well, we can refer to what else was said through Isaiah – that is, to believe in the Lord, to believe in Christ is to recognize that He was the One ‘laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation’;
Every believer in Christ would, in one way or the other, see Him and Him above anyone else as a Foundation on whom to stand upon, and as a Cornerstone that serves as the first Stone set before the rest of the palace, or the rest of the temple is built.
In other words, there’s no one we trust in more than Christ, and there’s no one we rely upon before Christ.
This core belief is further predicated by the words of David, particularly those later in Psalm 20:
May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you!
May he send you help from the sanctuary and give you support from Zion!
May he remember all your offerings and regard with favor your burnt sacrifices! Selah
May he grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill all your plans!
May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions!
Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving might of his right hand.
Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God.
They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand upright.
O LORD, save the king! May he answer us when we call.
Here I’m reminded of something else I mentioned, in the earlier parts of this year. Yes, we trust in the name of the LORD our God, and we do trust in Him more than horses – Meaning, we trust in our Creator more than we trust in anything He created in this reality.
And we do trust in Him more than chariots – Meaning, we trust in our Creator more than we trust in anything we created in this reality.
You can expand on what trust means, or simply trust in Him, giving thanks for who He is and what He has done.. But however you approach it, understand that whoever DOES trust in Him, shall never be put to same. And whoever DOES trust in him shall rise and stand upright.
Let us give thanks to God, for Christ: The Author and Finisher of our Faith, and the power behind our trusting in God.
Let us give thanks to God, for Christ – Through Him we appreciate our true worth, think as the mind of Christ thinks, and move as we are loved by our God, whom we call, Father.
Through Christ, our God is with us as a Father, and He is the worth in our words, that shall not so easily fall to the ground. Amen.
To Him be all the glory and praise, now and forever.
Until the next post, God bless us all.
