Trust In Famine, And In Plenty – January 24, 2024 (28/365)

The Word for me personally in this season is from Psalm 20. I’ve said it a lot in these short but feeling long days of this start of the year, and you can count on me to keep typing, to keep sharing, to myself and to all who would happen upon this: Trust in the Name of the Lord.

Trust in the Name of the Lord, in the famines and in the earthquakes. Even while Christ walked among us He was already warning us of these signs – the birthing pains.

Trust in the Name of the Lord in the famine – in all forms.

Trust in the Lord to be your Bread of Life, filling you in the midst of rising prices and cuts in more nutritious food for your physical body, and satiating you, even in wave after wave of junk meant to keep you addicted and inflamed, instead of sustained and satisfied.

Trust in the Lord to be your constant Truth keeping you secure, even in wave after wave of false facts, mind manipulation, and artificially generated sights and sounds. Trust in the Lord to be your literal Truth, alive in you in spite of the relentless assault against actual facts being communicated, and the Truth of Christ being ridiculed and censored.

The Lord was with Joseph. He was with him in his first days sold as a slave in Egypt, and everything he did under Potiphar prospered. He was with him when he was thrown into prison, and everything he did under the jail warden prospered.

He interpreted the dreams of the baker and the butler, and he eventually interpreted the dreams of Pharaoh himself.

And the reason why I bring him up is because he interpreted 7 years of plenty, followed by 7 years of famine. Because of his interpretation, Pharaoh made Joseph second only to him, to prepare Egypt.

In the years of plenty, Joseph organized the nation to store grain efficiently, keeping the people well fed while filling stockpile after stockpile for the years to come.

In the years of scarcity, Joseph organized the nation’s surplus of grain reasonably, guiding the nation through this famine… and all while wisely dealing with his brothers who had previously betrayed him.

I just have to mention that the wisdom of Joseph prepared Egypt greatly, with a huge stockpile of grain that not only kept the nation fed, but there was just so much more: First, the people offered their money, then when that was gone, they offered their livestock. And when that was gone, they offered their land, and then their lives.

Whether the famine be of actual food, or a famine of facts and the Truth, let us always remember to trust in the Name of the Lord – that is, His honor, His authority, and His character… and all of this is seen in Christ, who by His finished work has received the name above every other name.

In the famine, let us place our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. He is truly our Bread of Life and our Truth – and as we saw through the life of Joseph, as He was with him, so He will be with us. He was Joseph’s wisdom in times of plenty, and He was Joseph’s literal wisdom in the times of famine.

I also have to note that even when the rest of the world may offer their money, then their livestock, then their land and their lives for food and clarity, Christ REMAINS as our Bread of Life, as He is our Truth through the famine.

By the way I’ve been following the Bible In One Year plan as suggested by the well-known devotional Our Daily Bread… and while today I’m supposed to be in the book of Exodus already, I am at least proud to say that I finished the book of Genesis. Yes, there was a lot for me to want to write about, but here I think the story of Joseph will suffice for now. In fact, I think that this will easily hit two birds with one stone – getting me to react about what sticks through my breezing through the Bible like this, but at the same time I’m getting myself ready for messages beyond this coming Sunday.

But let’s move on. If I’m clearly stating what it means to be in a famine, and what it means to trust in the Lord and in the name of the Lord in times of famine, I should also point out that we should be trusting in the Lord in earthquakes.

Trust in the Name of the Lord in the earthquakes. The upheaval. Since we’re about to enter the book of Exodus, it’s Moses who comes to mind, and in the process of making all of this significant I initially thought and considered that the ‘earthquakes’ could be comparable the plights of the Israelites: first, under the Egyptians, and then in the wilderness.

But now that I think about it, there WAS a literal earthquake, when Korah questioned Moses’ authority. The former’s people were swallowed up in the earth, while only Moses and those who sided with him remained.

More on that as I continue to read through the Bible.

Something else coming soon. I’m just putting all of this up here for now, to get things going. I do have a lot on my mind, but I apologize because I have so much more to improve on when it comes to time management.

Until the next post, God bless you.
