Psalm 20, attributed to David, speaks of trusting in the Lord for protection and help, recognizing that some trust in earthly things, but believers trust in the name of the Lord. The writer reflects on the theme of trust and thanksgiving, emphasizing that Christ is the embodiment and fulfillment of God's honor, authority, and character.
In every season, the unifying equation is Emmanuel – our God is with us. Amidst observations, desires, learning, and puzzle-piecing, Christ is the constant. The Lord is with us, shaping, teaching, and rearranging, making every aspect meaningful.
In the face of storms, Christ demonstrated His superior dominion over the sea and the sky. Our dominion, as entrusted from the beginning, is limited. Our ultimate charge is to make disciples of all nations. Beyond mystical incantations, let us speak the good news, testify to the gospel of the grace of God, and proclaim Christ’s authority over heaven and earth.
The Psalm offers comfort in times of pain and turmoil, emphasizing human choice between casting blame outwardly or delving into inner suffering. It encourages looking beyond pain towards God's love, embodying the belief in Christ's timeless salvation. Accepting God's grace, we should bring our thoughts and emotions before God for solace, even in times of despair or amidst foes, confident in the power of prayer and God's tireless listening.
We're continuing down that path of celebrating who our God is by means of elaborating on how He was named, and that leads us today back to the Book of Genesis, to the life of Abraham.
