The Mountains Tremble (Psalm 114) – November 15, 2025 (357/365)

I don’t know who you are or why you’re even continuing to read all that I have to share here, but I just want to say thank you, and sorry, I guess – there’s not much here but my ramblings and all that I want to let out of my head, to make space. And with all that’s been going on lately, I’ve been more of a quantity over quality sort of guy when it comes to those ramblings. They’re pretty random and they’re all over the place. So, again, thank you, and sorry.

I’m just continuing my mental mandate to give thanks and praise the Lord no matter what I’m feeling, no matter what I’m facing, no matter what I’m moving from. I just want to acknowledge it with myself, and make it known to the rest of the world – or, that miniscule part of the world that reads all this, anyway – that I believe that the Lord is good, no matter what. He is good, He is great, and He is gracious.

Thought I’d take on another Psalm.

Psalm 114

The Power of God in His Deliverance of Israel

1 When Israel went out of Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language,

2 Judah became His sanctuary, And Israel His dominion.

3 The sea saw it and fled; Jordan turned back.

4 The mountains skipped like rams, The little hills like lambs.

5 What ails you, O sea, that you fled? O Jordan, that you turned back?

6 O mountains, that you skipped like rams? O little hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the God of Jacob,

8 Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of waters.

So if we talked about the futility of creation from the perspective of an eternal Creator, apparently here we’re digging deeper into the sheer might and power of said Creator. The great mountains skipped like rams, and the entire earth trembles and shakes.

We’re also seeing a reference to that one time that Moses drew out water from the rock, when the rest of the people were grumbling as they were thirsty. You know, the story where God told him to speak to the rock, but Moses, in his pissoffery, took his legendary staff and struck it instead. The water came out anyway, but it was a result of a work, instead of a fruit of the Spirit – and as such, even if the instruction came from the Lord, the attention went to Moses.

Well, that’s how I deduced all that, anyway. I suppose in our reflection of the goodness and greatness of the God of Israel, we’re to remember that we were saved, not to force work out of our flesh, but to produce fruit from His Spirit.

It’s a reminder to me, personally – I’m reminded that in all that’s going on in my own life, I’m supposed to give all priority and preference to the move of the Holy Spirit and the sheer power of His presence – Not to say that I’m supposed to let the Lord move me like a puppet, but that I’m to move – I’m to flow, knowing that the Spirit moves with me… and as the Spirit moves, so I move.

Acknowledge the sheer power and the absolute wisdom of our God.

Take in the everlasting love of our Father, giving thanks to Christ, who reconciled us to Him that now we live, and live abundantly – FOREVER.

Move from eternal life, and everlasting love. Worship and move, move and worship.

Funny that I reflect on this now. I’m leading worship tomorrow, and yesterday, we practiced. My voice was all over the place, even when I assumed that I’d be back on the saddle and dropping verses and chorus and bridge no problem, only for me to be dropping the mic and letting my backup vocals take over a lot more than I expected during our second practice run. I was focused on working, and I was focused on performing, and I flopped. Sure, one of the backups said it’s only because I haven’t been leading in a while… but if you were to ask me, I crashed and burned because it was all coming from me. I was working from the flesh for it.

Today, as I take time between reflecting on the Word and spending time with folks, keeping Christ’s goodness and grace in mind and just grooving in His presence, I’m proud to report that I’ve finished two runs completely, with minimal deviation to vocals. It was all out of just… worshipping instead of performing.

May this always be the case. In our qualms and in our great problems, let us think less of what work we do towards a resolution… Instead, let us worship. Let us not look into our own capabilities, more than looking at and beholding His goodness… then the repentance follows. Then the transformation follows.

Then the mountains shake as the rams, and the hills as sheep. To the glory of our Father, now and forever. Amen.

May the great glory and grace of our everlasting Father be seen in a very visible way in your own lives, that you and your family would be ministered to. May we behold His endless wisdom, His infinite power, and His everlasting love. May we see Christ in all that happens to us, what we make happen, and everything in between.

Then the mountains shake as the rams, and the hills as sheep. To the glory of our Father, now and forever. Amen.

Almighty Fortress, You go before us,

nothing can stand against the power of our God.

You shine in the shadows, You win every battle,

nothing can stand against the power of our God.

So when I fight, I fight on my knees

with my hands lifted high,

Oh God, the battle belongs to You

Every fear I lay at Your feet

I sing through the night

Oh God, the battle belongs to You!
