Taking Refuge In His Greatness – May 25-27, 2025 (208/365)

Stuff from last Sunday.

I offered to give Pastor Poppo some time to speak, and he took on my offer, saying he only needed at least 2 minutes.

We clapped in gratitude and respect, and more so when he started sharing about how he believed that though he lost the elections, he was always victorious to begin with.

Later on in the service I latched on to this, saying that though his opponents had so much money, the way the Lord moved with Pastor Poppo just proved that we had something else, and something better: That is, more than money, he and we have each other. We have people.

Victory manifested in other ways, way more significant.

When asked what he learned, Pastor Poppo did not hesitate to say that God is good, yesterday, today, and forever.

From last week:

Things happen outside of our expectations… either for better, or for worse.

But no matter how things do happen, let’s remember Philippians 3:1 – Rejoice in the Lord, and Philippians 4:1 – Stand firm in the Lord.

‘in the Lord’: Remembering sir Larry’s rebuke:

You already have everything you need, and I’m here to help.

  • You are blessed with every spiritual blessing…
    • 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.Ephesians 1:3-4
  • …for every good work.
    • 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.2 Corinthians 9:8
  • You have no less than the Holy Spirit to help you.
    • But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.John 14:26

Again, things happen outside our expectations… but things also come back to memory.

May 24 is when we remember the passing of our late great overall Pastor Oscar.

Ironically, May 25 was their wedding anniversary with Mama Suzette.

…and, even more ironically, May 26 is Mama Suzette’s birthday.

In light of all that’s remembered, in light of all that’s happened and is happening, I don’t think it’s an accident that we go through Psalm 86.

Psalm 86

Great Is Your Steadfast Love

A PRAYER OF DAVID.

1 Incline your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

2 Preserve my life, for I am godly; save your servant, who trusts in you—you are my God.

3 Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to you do I cry all the day.

4 Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

5 For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

6 Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace.

7 In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me.

Psalm 86:1-7

8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

9 He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever.

10 He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities.

11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;

12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

Psalm 103:8-12

6 I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words.

7 Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand.

8 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings,

9 from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me.Psalm 17:6-9

Through these verses we make the emphasis that it is a demonstration of God’s great, steadfast love for Him to answer us, abounding in steadfast love when we call on Him.

We know God loves us because He hears us.

11 Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

12 I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.

13 For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.

Psalm 86:11-13

4 Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.

5 Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.

Psalm 25:4-5

Now, through these verses we make the emphasis that it is a demonstration of God’s great, steadfast love for Him to teach us – particularly in His way, that we would walk in His truth.

Consequently, we read of how we’re naturally rescued from the depths when He teaches us. Or, rather, it’s also a demonstration of His love to deliver us and to rescue us.

We know God loves us because He teaches us.

We know God loves us because He rescues us.

8 There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.

9 All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name.

10 For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

Psalm 86:8-10

And here’s where I sing the following:

You deserve the glory and the honor

And we lift our hands in worship

As we praise Your holy name

You deserve the glory and the honor

And we lift our hands in worship

As we praise Your holy name

For You are great, You do miracles so great

There is no one else like You, there is no one else like You

For You are great, You do miracles so great

There is no one else like You, there is no one else like You

The thing is, I couldn’t help but sing this as soon as I took over the pulpit after Pastor Poppo spoke. So we sang it twice, and proclaimed twice, that God is great, and He does miracles so great.

I led the congregation into just taking time to thank the Lord, before the benediction.

Just thought I’d share all of this, before I moved on.

Until the next post, hopefully coming soon, may the Lord continue to bless and keep us. Amen. Amen.
