TETH
65 You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments.
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word.
68 You are good and do good; teach me your statutes.
69 The insolent smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep your precepts;
70 their heart is unfeeling like fat, but I delight in your law.
71 It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.
72 The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
Psalms 119:65-72
Help me. For all that’s been going on, and all that’s happening and all I’m allowing to happen in my mind and around me, that’s what I have to say: Father, help me.
Yet I am immediately refreshed, for as I see this portion of Scripture, I read how He takes care of the Psalmist, dealing ‘well’ with him; and this is according to His Word. I draw some confidence in the truth that is implied here – for through Christ and because of His finished work, we are not reconciled merely to be called servants; No, the Holy Spirit poured out upon us has us calling the Lord our Father. Therefore, if He deals well with His servants, how much more His children – How much more does He take care of us in the body of Christ?
Before I cried out to my Father, He has already helped me… and I am humbled. For this reason I state the same thing that the Psalmist says: Indeed, while I am in this humbling realization of my inadequacy, my shaky dealings, my arrogance and resultant sin, I ask, as he once asked – Please, Father, teach me – reprogram my mind, continue to install and enforce good judgment and knowledge in me. Teach me by Your Word, and according to Your Word.
Indeed, Father, wash me in the Word. I imagine Your Word as water, that bursts and runs through every corner of my being from the outside. Your Word is as water, that also bursts forth from within – living water that gushes forth from our bellies. Wash me from the outside, rinse me and overflow me from the inside. Thank You, Father, for your revelations.
In this moment of anxiety of events that are happening, frustration in things that aren’t happening and disappointment in myself for my lack of action and reaction… In this affliction, Father, indeed – I keep Your Word. Indeed, at this moment, as I write about this Word, as I respond to this Word, I allow it to course through every fiber of my being, to transform me starting from the renewing of my mind. And in my meditation, I will not be surprised if, yet again, I am reminded of the Living Word, Christ, who keeps me.
Our God is truly good, and He does good! For in teaching us His Word, we are refreshed, renewed, and reminded of reconciliation and righteousness.
And we need constant reminders, especially in this world that goes out of its way to oppose the truth, silencing it while increasing the volume for more lies and insolence to be blasted out… We need the reminders, and we DO need the Word to continue to keep us. Consequently, let us delight in His law, let us take pleasure in His precepts, for they keep us even in times of affliction.
Indeed, His Word is of infinitely more worth than anything we can ever have in this world. The Word gives value and meaning to all we have, and peace for all we don’t have.
May we continue to embrace the Word – and in our embracing the Word, let us not be surprised if we come to the realization and the reminder that the Word, the Living Word is always with us, embracing us more.
Thank You again, Father, for even in these moments when my own consistency and my own integrity are compromised, well, You continue to stay faithful. You are faithful when we are faithless. You are and will always be consistent, even in our stumbling.
Thank You, Father, for Jesus Christ; Thank You, Father, for Your only begotten Son, through whom we can make these claims – for indeed, we do say You are consistent, but what’s more is that through Christ, we know that You are consistently for us, and consistently not against us.
Thank You, Father, for in Your consistency and faithfulness, we may never see everything that You are doing at every given moment, but we don’t have to – we are at peace that You are consistently working all things for the good of those who love You and are called according to Your purpose.
It’s Your consistency and Your faithfulness that are keeping me together right now – no system, no mindset, no product, nothing in all creation can ever compare to the peace that You give us, this peace that goes beyond all understanding that holds us close and holds us together in our times of brokenness.
Thank You, Father, for even right now, in meditation of Your goodness, You are moving in and around me, in things I discern and beyond – I claim the peace and the promise of Your Word, that You are as a loving Father to us, moving for us, fighting for us – defending us, encouraging us, comforting us, empowering us, directing us, assuring and reassuring us of Your goodness.
Oh, thank You, Father, for everything! Thank You for Your faithfulness even in our failures! Thank You for Your consistency in our critical mistakes!
Thank You, Father, for we may fail, and all we depend on may fail, but we can STILL run to You; You ARE our Strong Tower, our very present help!
To You, Father – To the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – To YOU be all the glory, praise, honor, worship, recognition, admiration, power, strength, and thanksgiving – now, and forever!
