Perfect Inheritance (Psalm 16, pt2) – August 12, 2024 (222/365)

We established yesterday, in the first part of Psalm 16, that we look to our good Savior, our Good Shepherd, rather, and celebrate His excellence, for excellence to exude and overflow in our own lives. And yes, I know that I promised to finish it yesterday, so, sorry. It’s the next day, hope you weren’t too stressed by waiting, thank you for actually waiting, and here goes nothing.

The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.

The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance.

See, I could have just taken the rest of the Psalm in one fell swoop yesterday… but because these verses were there, I knew I needed more time.

These verses in particular, they’re close to my heart considering what’s going on at the moment, with all the land disputes that are going on. I’ll just take it literally, and say that it’s God who holds my lot – just as I’m claiming that He holds our family’s lots. And, yes, if you’re thinking I’m referring to land as our ‘lot’, then you’re correct.

I am thankful, because I have a ‘beautiful inheritance’ – that is, more than the beauty of the lots that we do have, I’m appreciating how ‘the lines have fallen for (us) in pleasant places’; And I know that it has more meanings, but today I’m intentionally interpreting it as the borders of the lots we have,  established properly and upheld appropriately.

As I’m writing all that I’m reminded of how Christ says that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy – I’m claiming the promise that no matter how the enemy would try to steal our possessions, kill our bodies and destroy our minds and souls, we operate with contentment, vigor, and joy, knowing that Christ came to give us life, and life abundantly.

I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.

I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.

And, in light of these verses, let’s hold on to the threats of the enemy. If the enemy threatens to destroy our minds, and to drain our souls of life, well, whatever may come out of it, we are at peace.

Why? Because through Christ, we have the all-knowing and omniscient Creator to give us counsel from the outside in. Also, through Christ, we have been made new creators, with a new mind and a new heart that gives us instruction from the inside out.

If the enemy attempts to steal what we have, whatever he does or doesn’t get away with, we are at peace.

Why? Through Christ and His finished work, we have the all-powerful, omnipotent Creator – Yes, the same God who made all we say we possess, and actually is the One who owns everything – it is He who is always before us, and also beside us, that no matter what we have, or what we don’t have, we are not shaken.

If the enemy attempts to kill our bodies, afflicting our brains and/or our flesh; whatever we feel or don’t feel, again, we are at peace.

Why? Because of Jesus Christ, who by His ascension guaranteed the pouring of His Spirit upon all of us who believe, our hearts are literally glad, and the rest of our being follows suit; being absolutely secure, we rejoice!

For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

And see here, as we close our reflections on this Psalm – sure, you know, we can be so thankful for everything that the Lord GIVES us, but what matters more; rather, what is of utmost value, more than what we receive from Him, is PRESENCE: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit with us as we are with God.

We are never alone. We are directed to the path of life.

The righteous right hand that upholds us (Isaiah 41:10) is the same right hand from which we draw pleasures that last forever.

Finally, there is no corruption that persists in His holy presence, but it is the fullness of joy that endures.

His love, ever with us, never leaving us, endures forever.

Father, we give You thanks. We are ever grateful, even when we are surrounded by circumstances and situations, and when we are being sabotaged by sin that dwells within… because none of these things can ever stand against You and Your goodness, glory, and grace.

So now, Father, as we start another week, and before we realize how time passes so quickly, we want to acknowledge You.

All we’re thinking, all we’re worried about, all that gives us anxiety, all that we’re occupied with, and in all we regret, all we’re still coming to terms with – Thank You. Your lovingkindness endures forever, and surely it endures so it remains, even as the times and the seasons pass with all we thought important once, eventually fading away.

We thank You for Your unfading presence in our lives, and Your goodness, glory, and grace manifesting in all our situations, and in all our issues. We want to give You praise, as we openly and intentionally acknowledge how You are far superior than these trials, and how, through it all, You are for us, and not against us.

Please continue to minister to us, and the families we represent. Thank You for everything You do, everything You’ve done, and everything You will do.

Our trust is in You, and we claim the promises of Your word for those who DO trust in You: We are blessed, and we shall not be put to shame.

Be glorified in all that concerns us, and all we’re concerned about. This day, and this week is Yours.

Halleluyah. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

As we reflect on Psalm 16, we’re reminded of the profound peace and security we have in Christ. Despite the challenges we face, our inheritance in the Lord is beautiful and secure.

His presence is our ultimate comfort, guiding us on the path of life and filling us with joy. In every circumstance, we can rest in the knowledge that God is with us, holding our future, and offering us pleasures forevermore at His right hand.

Let us continually set the Lord before us, trusting in His counsel and rejoicing in His unfailing love.

Until the next post (coming soon), God bless us all.
